I was moments away from confirming an over-priced UberEats order when it hit me.
It wasn’t that I didn’t “want to” cook… It was that I didn’t “wanna” cook.
There’s a subtle difference.
It had nothing to do with managing my time, stress, energy, or just standing up for my convictions.
I was just whining and wanted an easy-out.
That’s when I came up with the game, cancelled the order, and cooked dinner.
Since then, by playing the game, I’ve…
✔ …stopped myself from skipping a workout.
✔ …did some lame-ass administrative work I’ve been putting off.
✔ …finally replaced the dryer vent hose.
I lost nothing, but gained so much for it!
You see…
“I don’t wanna cook tonight.” or
“I don’t wanna workout right now.”
…is the exact same as…
“I don’t wanna go to school.” or
“I don’t wanna do my homework.”
We show our kids tough love in these situations to improve their self-regulation and resilience.
Let’s not forget that we need that tough love too sometimes.
Was there something that you didn’t “wanna” do today, but did anyway?
